Relief Package for the fishermen held captive in Pakistan

The Prime Minister has announced a one time relief package for the affected families of fishermen in the captivity of Pakistan as on 27-9-2007.  The package consists of the following components:

i)    one-time ex-gratia amount of Rs. 3 lakh should be given to next of kin of each person held in captivity; and

ii)   a grant of Rs. 30,000/- for smaller fishing boats and a grant of Rs. 5 lakh for trawlers to be provided to owner(s) of each seized boat/fishing trawler, based on the type of fishing craft seized.

So far, ex-gratia amount of   Rs. 852 Lakh have been released to the NoK of 284 fishermen.
