Relief/Rehabilitation measures in the Earthquake affected areas of Jammu & Kashmir  

Details of relief measures and rehabilitation schemes announced by the PM after the devastating earth quake in Jammu & Kashmir on October 8, 2005 are as follows: -  

 

  • Release of ex-gratia to the tune of Rs. 1.00 lakh each to the Next of  Kin of the deceased.

Ex-gratia from the fund is being directly credited to the accounts of the concerned beneficiaries on the basis of requisite details furnished by the State Government. So far, on the basis details received, ex-gratia of Rs. 10.11 crore has been credited to the accounts of 1011 beneficiaries.

  • Naunihalon Ka Naya Savera scheme       

     Under this scheme an amount of Rs.5.00 lakh have been placed in a fixed deposit in the name of the child who lost both the parents. Children who have lost single parent have been provided Rs.2.50 lakh. The interest accrued is to be utilized for the child support until he/she reaches the age of 18 years.  560 children have been covered under the scheme and Rs. 14.775 crore have been released for the purpose. 

  • Construction of Orphanages 

It has been decided to construct three Orphanages in Baramulla, Kupwara and Srinagar.  These Orphanages would take care of children who have lost both/one  parent(s).  Modalities are being worked out for implementation of the scheme. Entire funds of Rs.12.33 crore involved in the project have been placed at the disposal of Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir.
